BORA – hansgrohe misses out on Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen sprint finish

Known as a race for the sprints, the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen took place today in Belgium. Even strong winds influenced the race, all was set for a bunch sprint when the break of the day was caught on the final lap. BORA – hansgrohe was always attentive in the bunch and also worked for their fast man Jordi Meeus in the chase. Unfortunately, the team lost position in the final three kilometers when all of the teams tried to move up an created some chaos. In the end Jordi couldn’t contest for the win today and finished outside the top ten when F. Jakobsen took the victory.

From the finish line

“We tried to do some action in the crosswind once, but the wind direction was not perfect to split the bunch. But the boys showed they have the legs and are committed. There was headwind on the last kilometers, and it is especially tricky in these conditions to prepare a sprint. The pressure from the back is high as it is hard to set a tempo fast enough at the front to avoid teams moving up from the slipstream. The boys did a good job the whole day and it looked also promising in the end until three kilometers to go. Then they lost position. It was impossible for Jordi to move up again as it was quite chaotic with lead-out riders coming back ahead of him. It’s a pity because he had good legs but also all the work the team has done deserved a more positive outcome.” – Jean-Pierre Heynderickx, Sports Director
