Buchmann again just behind top group!

3 riders of BORA – ARGON 18 represented in the first leading group.

Just before the rest day tomorrow, today the 9th stage demanded the riders everything. The start was in Vielha Val d’Aran, leaded over 5 KOM’s to the final climb to Andorre Arcolis. Generally known that the climbs in Andorra more difficult as usual. The riders had special respect to the Col de Beixalis with an average gradient of 8,5% and small norrow roads with ramps to 20%.

Many attacks after the official start opened the stage. At the climb to the first KOM a group of 45 riders could escape but split later to 20. From BORA – ARGON 18 it was Patrick Konrad, Paul Voss and Cesare Benedetti who presented the colours of the team in the first group but could not follow when the pace increased a second time.

In progress of the race, the leading group was reduced to 9 riders before the last climb. At that time the peloton had a gap of 9 minutes. At the beginning of the last climb Dumoulin could drop Majka and Costa. Back in the main field, the favorites Froome – Quintana – Porte – Henao – Pinot – Aru – Mollema attacked again and again.

Emanuel Buchmann had today some problems at the beginning but came back to the peloton and was there present till 5,5k before the finish. He reached 10 minutes after the race winner Tom Dumoulin und only 3 minutes behind Chris Froome the finish line. Actually Emu is on the 22nd place in the GC.

"My leg were really bad on the first climb and I had to suffer a lot. But then during the stage the legs came better and at the end I could stay with the best until around 5k to go. I am happy with the first week, time gaps are small and my position is good now for the next weeks." - Emanuel Buchmann

One of the biggest favourites of this years Tour de France – Alberto Contador – had to abandon because of health problems.
