BORA – hansgrohe attentive as Jumbo-Visma attacks on Tour de France stage four

Even there was again not much wind on the first stage of the Tour in France, still the finale was quite thrilling today. While M. Cort once again was at the head of the race in the first half of the day, this time together with A. Perez, in the end Jumbo-Visma made an impressive move. Already on the last 60km the pace was high in the bunch and BORA – hansgrohe did an excellent job once again to ride at the head of the bunch with Aleks Vlasov. On the last climb Jumbo-Visma rode the bunch into pieces. On the top W. Van Aert launched the decisive attack, while Aleks stayed together with the other GC favorites. In the end Danny Van Poppel took another top ten result and in the GC non-less than four BORA – hansgrohe riders are already inside the best 20.

From the finish line

“In the last climb I went too deep in the beginning, and I had to ease off a little and find my rhythm then. The climb was also longer than expected, but I stayed calm and came back quite quickly. I tried to do the sprint then, but it was not easy as there was not much organization left. I also had to invest already during the day as our main priority is always to stay safe with Aleks. But another top ten is a good result for the team and I am happy as well.” – Danny Van Poppel

“That was a strong move from Jumbo. But I was in good position because the team did a great job again the whole day. I didn’t take any risk in the downhill before the climb and as a result I already had a small gap in the corner before the climb. But my legs have been good again, I was with Pogacar then, but actually all GC favorites came back together quite fast and in the end nothing happened.” – Aleksandr Vlasov

“Congrats to Wout and his team. That was a great attack and a big cycling show. We knew there would be some moves in the end, but the execution of Jumbo-Visma was impressive. But also for us it was another good day. The boys did a great job again in protecting Aleks and he was in position when it mattered. Also tactically nothing changed for us, it was just another day where we stayed out of trouble.” – Rolf Aldag, sports director
