Late crosswind action unrewarded at Tirreno-Adriatico stage three

Another long day in the saddle brought the riders over more than 200km to Foligno today. Again, an early break was without any chance and with already more than 60km remaining all was back together. In the final Jumbo-Visma made a move and echelons formed, but BORA – hansgrohe was up there with Lennard Kämna. With 4km to go the situation was neutralized and all was set for a bunch sprint. While Jordi Meeus came in 10th today, J. Philipsen took the third stage.

From the finish line

“The whole team did a great job today. We knew the final could be tricky on small roads and we moved up in the bunch already with 50km to go. Gampi and CeCe protected our leaders really well. We also anticipated the echelons in the end and Lenny was there from the beginning. Aleks was able to bridge across alone. So all under control, but anyway it all came back together again. In the end it was difficult for Jordi being alone. He is also doing a good job but of course he needs a little bit of luck to catch the right wheel. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case today.” – Enrico Gasparotto, Sports Director
