Paris-Nice: BORA - hansgrohe misses a top result on stage two

Stage two of Paris-Nice took the peloton from Bazainville to Fontainebleau and covered 163.7km of mostly flat terrain. A long solo attack by J. Gregaard came to an end 53km from the finish line. BORA - hansgrohe pulled in the peloton and worked hard to be in the best possible position for the bunch sprint. In a fast and chaotic run in, Sam Bennett was slightly blocked with 500m to go and so was out of contention for a top result today. Danny van Poppel was BORA - hansgrohe’s best placed rider in 17th.

From the Finish Line

“The team was amazing today, we really rode as a unit! Unfortunately I lost the wheel at the final roundabout and was just too far back from there on. I didn’t have the speed anymore in the final 500m and had no chance to come back. It wasn’t ideal today.“ Sam Bennett

“Our train ran perfectly throughout the day, but in the end we missed the entrance to the station. In the finale, a crash caused chaos, we lost ourselves as a team and were no longer in position at the crucial roundabout, 500m ahead of the finish line. We were unlucky, but we managed to get through without any crashes or injuries. We have to accept defeat today, and our focus is now on the team time trial tomorrow and the rest of the upcoming stages.“ Rolf Aldag, Sports Director
