Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana: Bob Jungels’ strong ride in the breakaway rewarded with 2nd place finish

Day three of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana took the peloton from Bétera to Sagunto. The stage covered 145km, a punchy profile and two categorized climbs. Right after the flag off Bob Jungels went clear from the peloton and was part of a five-riders breakaway that, despite all efforts in the peloton, ultimately wasn’t brought back. In the final sprint Bob Jungels rode to a strong 2nd, while S. Velasco secured the stage win. Ahead of tomorrow’s queen stage Aleksandr Vlasov remains in 3rd overall.

From the Finish Line

“At the beginning I thought it would be bit of a suicide mission, since the teams with a sprinter would control the race anyway. From the last climb on I was really on the limit, but somehow we managed to make it to the line. In the final sprint, Gregaard unfortunately lost his chain right in front of me, so I was boxed in for a moment. Of course, a win would have been nicer, but in the end I'm just happy to take home a podium today.” Bob Jungels

“"The plan was to be in the breakaway with Bob Jungels - Bob, as a very experienced pro, executed this plan perfectly. He knows exactly when to push and when to ride conservatively in a breakaway. Of course we would have loved to come back to the hotel with the win, but we are more than happy with the result today. Our four climbers crossed the line within the reduced bunch and without losing any time - another strong team effort!” Enrico Gasparotto, Sports Director
