Vuelta a San Juan: Sam Bennett sprints to 2nd in Argentina

Stage six of the Vuelta a San Juan, with start and finish at the Velódromo Vincente Chancay, covererd two cat.3 climbs and a total distance of 144km. A hectic fight for the breakaway right after the flag dropped resulted in a group of seven riders that put their mark on the race and was ultimately brought back at 20km from the finish. With a strong leadout, BORA - hansgrohe positioned Sam Bennett in the final bunch sprint. Bennett was only beaten by S. Welsford and finished second to secure his third podium of the week. From the Finish Line

“Was a good day for us, I just had to stay calm and have faith in my team mates to get me there. They did a fantastic job and I really want to thank them for their work! I’m happy with the speed I have at the moment, that’s good for the confidence.“ Sam Bennett

“That was really close! The guys rode strong and Danny van Poppel guided Sam Bennett perfectly in the finale. In the end, Welsford had the better timing and we can only congratulate him and DSM on that. Tomorrow the cycling festival here in San Juan concludes with a circuit race - we're looking forward to the grande finale!” Bernhard Eisel, Sports Director
