Matt Walls finishes Trofeo Palma sprint outside the top ten

The last day of the Mallorca Challenge took the riders today on flat terrain towards Palma. While a four men break was in front for most of the day, the sprinter teams made sure the race came back together just in time when the bunch entered the local laps. BORA – hansgrohe tried to position Matt Walls before the decisive last hairpin with 500m to go but struggled to stay together as a train. Launching his sprint from too far back, the Olympic Champion finished outside the top ten today.

From the finish line

“We wanted to control the race in the finale and the guys have been at the front until 5km to go. Unfortunately, they lost themselves a little on the last lap and Matt was too far back before the last corner. From his position it was impossible to fight for the win. After this five days of racing we have quite some mixed feelings. I think the boys are a lot better in shape than the results show. Still, we cannot be satisfied with this week. But we know now after those races where to focus on in training the upcoming weeks.” – Torsten Schmidt, Sports Director
