Ackermann sprints to 3rd on final stage as Schelling moves up to 5th in GC of Belgium Tour

The final stage of the Belgium Tour 2021 was again a day for the sprinters. While a breakaway group of five riders could escape from the peloton after about 30 kilometers into the race, the teams of the sprinters kept everything under control and allowed no more than three minutes for the riders up front. Also BORA-hansgrohe was seen at the front of the peloton the whole day to get the breakaway back in time so Ide Schelling could go for the intermediate sprints for the bonus seconds and to allow a sprint for Pascal Ackermann. With a strong performance on the final intermediate sprints Ide Schelling could take 5 bonus seconds to move up to a 5th place in the GC. After 178,7 kilometers it all came down to a bunch sprint where Pascal Ackermann could take a good third place.

From the Finish Line

“My plan today worked out quite perfect as I wanted to move up in the GC with the bonus seconds of the intermediate sprints. The team did a great job to pull back the riders up front and I could take in total 5 seconds to move up to a 5th place in the GC. I am more than happy with my performance and how it went today.” – Ide Schelling

“The team did a good job today and brought me into position for the final sprint. On the last kilometer I was in perfect position, but too close to the left barrier. As there was no space to get through, I had no chance to go for the victory.” – Pascal Ackermann
