Sixth place for Pascal Ackermann at Scheldeprijs

Also known as the unofficial World Championships for sprinters, the Scheldeprijs took the riders over 194 km today from Terneuzen to Schoten. While the parkours was particularly flat, the cold weather conditions with strong winds played a decisive role in today’s race. After 20 kilometers of racing first crosswind sections forced splits the peloton. The bunch regrouped once, but later a group of 13 riders, including Ackermann, Schwarzmann and Burghardt from BORA – hansgrohe went clear from the main group, being followed by a first chasing group with Rudi Selig. The two groups fought against each other for quite a while before they came together with 70 km remaining. The race situation remained unchanged then until the end and it came down to a sprint of about 30 riders. Unfortunately, BORA – hansgrohe messed up its lead-out and Pascal had no position for the sprint. In the end he took sixth place while J. Philipsen was victorious.

From the Finish Line

"I am disappointed. We have been boxed in on the left side but planned to stay right. I also lost the wheel of Rudi then and in the end I had no chance from where I had to start my sprint. Actually, I was fast on the last meters, but from where I started it wasn’t enough." – Pascal Ackermann

"Until the final three kilometers we rode a perfect race, it’s also important mentioning that. We had five guys in the leading group and controlled the race. Marcus is in really good shape. But having said that, the final result hurts even more. We just didn’t get our lead-out right and lost all chances there." – Enrico Poitschke, Sports Director
