No luck for BORA – hansgrohe on the final stage of the UAE Tour

Traditionally the UAE Tour ends with a sprint finish in Abu Dhabi, therefore today was also a last chance for Pascal Ackermann and BORA – hansgrohe to take a first victory in a young 2021 season. Right after the start in Yas Mall, a trio went up the road, but the bunch was once again always ins control of the situation. When the break was caught, there was a split in the bunch for a short period and when the field regrouped a big crash slowed the race down. Fortunately, no BORA – hansgrohe was involved in that crash and the team was in front on the last 10 kilometers when the lead-outs started. In the finale, Ackermann lost the wheel of Laas and was out of position on the home straight. Therefore, he wasn’t able to fight for the win today.

From the Finish Line

"Unfortunately, also today we haven’t been able to be at the right time at the right spot. I lost the wheel of Martin on the last kilometer and was boxed in then. Actually, I couldn’t sprint at all, which is a pity. But sometimes that happens in close a finale like this." – Pascal Ackermann

"Well, I have to admit that we missed our goals this week. We wanted to fight for top five in GC and a stage win, and we didn’t achieve neither. The GC we already lost on the first day, but then we could see that Emanuel would have been up there. Also Pascal had the speed, but we never managed to get the timing right in our lead-out. So all in all the conclusion is that we have the potential, but we need to execute better." – Enrico Poitschke, Sports Director
