BORA – hansgrohe gears up for The Digital Swiss 5

The world’s top professional cycling teams are preparing to do battle against each other next month in “The Digital Swiss 5” - a series of five individual races on parts of the same parcours planned for the Tour de Suisse 2020.

Velon is working with the organisers of the Tour de Suisse and the ROUVY Indoor Cycling Reality platform to bring racing to fans everywhere whilst respecting the restrictions on everyday life as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.

The BORA – hansgrohe riders will be getting on the Wahoo KICKR Smart Trainer for five races over five consecutive days to ride the most challenging parts of the Tour de Suisse parcours. We will field three riders, and their live data, including speed, power, cadence and heart rate, will be displayed. What’s great for viewers is that the ROUVY platform uses real video footage of roads, and you’ll see our riders represented by 3D avatars in our original Sportful kit and on our own Specialized bikes, just like in real competition.

The races are scheduled to each last approximately one hour, and are scheduled from Wednesday 22nd April to Sunday 26th April. Fans will be able to watch live on the BORA – hansgrohe Facebook page. We will announce further information about how to watch soon. Viewers in Switzerland will be able to watch live on the national broadcaster, SRG. Invitations to participate have been sent to all teams who are scheduled to race in this year’s Tour de Suisse, which is due to take place in June.

Head Sports Director, Enrico Poitschke: “These unprecedented times have necessitated the imposition of significant restrictions on daily life, and of course on our sport. That’s why we are excited about this new opportunity with Velon and ROUVY to engage in a new style of racing during this time. We think this is a step that will also be wholeheartedly welcomed by our riders and fans. While we don’t know what to expect from this new concept, we are very curious to see where this will lead us and we hope that it will make for some exciting racing for all viewers.”
